EGR

 EGR

egr valve

The EGR valve or its professional name Exhaust Gas Recirculation is a valve that recycles the engine gases back through the engine cycle to be used again reducing emissions which helps keeps the atmosphere clean. It helps reduce the amount of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gases. Nitrogen oxides are normally formed in the process of combustion in the engine cylinders.

However, their formation increases dramatically at higher combustion temperatures (above 1600 °C or 2912 °F).

Like with all parts there comes a time when they brake and cause more hassle then there worth, they fail due to becoming clogged up with unburned gases turned to soot and cause havoc.

symptoms of bad egr

Symptoms of a bad EGR valve include:

  • rough idling or stalling
  • a smell of fuel
  • increased fuel consumption
  • pinging, tapping, or knocking sounds
  • failed smog test
  • Check Engine Light on

IS EGR solution LEGAL?

Please note that we only offer EGR solutions for 'Off-Road Usage only' ie trackday, motorsports, off-roading etc.

Although it is not illegal to remove the EGR from your vehicle, it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of the EGR will almost invariably contravene these requirements.

The potential penalties for failing to comply with Regulation 61a are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.
