OVERRUN/POP/CRACKLE

OVERRUN / POP / CRACKLE

& FLAME

what is pop, bang, FLAMES ?

So ECU maps that make your petrol car exhaust go pop/crackle/bang and even on the real good tunes have flames coming out, definitely not new to the world of engine modifications as these have been around forever and a day, for those that like to show off at legally organised  car clubs and monthly owner club meets.

From high performance cars to your everyday run around these maps are everywhere though not to everyone's taste they are big on the car scene and enjoyed by all ages from young kids to the more mature adult.

Through some cleaver  tuning we can provide you with this service - vehicle and mods dependent.

how does it work and is it safe ?

First thing we like to point out is that a lot of manufactures actually make the ecu's pop naturally these days through  having sports exhaust  as part of the manufacturing of the vehicle. They do this because they know how popular it is.

So to be able to make "pops" and "burbles" safely without damaging the pistons we slightly retard the ignition timing which  causes a slight "misfire" allowing the unburnt fuel to then not heat up in the camber potentially  damaging the piston but rather allow the fuel to flow through in to the exhaust where it then combusts due to the heat of the exhaust or the catalytic converter  with that the burnt fuel makes "pops" and "crackles" that you love and hear.

The law

Under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42) it is an offence to use on a road a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.

The potential penalties are £1,000 for a car and £2,500 for a van, lorry or bus.
